Rapid

For those of you who prefer GUI to console and you’re not the kind of person that prefers the speed of a good console slowed only down by the speed of your fingers and your trusty binary clock, you may be interested in RapidSVN to manage your Subversion repository.

Features include:

  1. Easy to use interface.
  2. Simple for beginners but flexible enough to increase productivity for experienced users.
  3. Runs on any platform on which Subversion and wxWidgets can run. (Linux, Windows, Mac OS/X, Solaris, etc.)
  4. Entirely written in C++.
  5. Translated to many languages. (German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Ukrainian, Simplified Chinese)
  6. Full support for Unicode.

There are some screen shots here you can check out.

I’ve been using it for the last couple of days on my Ubuntu box and really do love it. It’s fast, simple and looks great :) To install it in Ubuntu, download the “tar.gz” file from here. Then just extract the contents and run the “install.sh” file.

Once you’re done you will have a menu short-cut under your “Applications -> System Tools” menu.

Enjoy :)

  1. Thanks for the tip. I have a group of developers using an old version of PVCS that I would like to move to Subversion. Besides the locking differences that they would have to adjust to, they are married to the PVCS GUI. This interface would be more like what they are used to.

  2. If I may, if you are running windows TortoiseSVN (http://tortoisesvn.tigris.org) integrates nicely with the Windows Explorer shell. Rabid looks very cool for other platforms though!

  3. @MichaelDotNet, I agree. On my Windows System I use TortoiseSVN :) Very nice.

  4. I have been using Rapid SVN for months now and love it. it handles all the day-to-day needs. Remember, use “Flat Mode” whenever you can. :-) It allows you to see all the files under the work directory since you won’t see parent folders flagged as needing action taken.

    FLAT MODE.

  6. honestly rapid sucks it’s ugly and clumsy, it doesn’t even lets you see a repo without adding a “bookmarK”

  7. I must agree Jorge, Tortoise is really awesome with it’s simplicity and integration.
